Cyprus has concluded its participation in the 78th Frankfurt Book Fair, with the Deputy Ministry of Culture hailing a busy few days of meetings and contacts with publishers from around the world.
The fair, held from 7 to 11 October, featured 3,800 events and drew 236,000 visitors this year.
The Cypriot stand, located in Hall 3.1, Stand C83, served as a meeting point and a forum for the exchange of ideas, creating opportunities for new partnerships and promoting Cypriot publishing abroad.
Particular emphasis was placed on promoting Cypriot literature, the scope for translating and publishing Cypriot works in other languages, and linking Cypriot writers and publishers with the international book market.
The Deputy Ministry said this year’s presence was considered highly successful, having met its aim of boosting the international profile of Cypriot literature and opening up prospects for new publishing collaborations.
It added that contacts made during the fair provided a positive basis for continued communication and for exploring cooperation after the event.
Cyprus was represented by Nikoletta Marathefтou of the Deputy Ministry’s Contemporary Culture Department, along with Ilias Epifaniou, Charis Ioannides and Giorgos Savva of the Cyprus Publishers Association.
The Deputy Ministry said participation was organised jointly by its Contemporary Culture Department and the Cyprus Publishers Association, as part of efforts to support Cypriot publishing and promote the outward reach of the Cypriot book.
