Ole Miss basketball committed tampering violations that involved a former assistant coach, according to an NCAA announcement on Oct. 23.
Punishments assessed to the program included two years of probation, a $455,000 fine and recruiting restrictions. No postseason penalties were announced.
The former assistant coach was Wes Flanigan, who was at Ole Miss from 2023-26 but is now at Georgia Tech.
Flanigan had impermissible recruiting conversations with an advisor of a player from another school who had not entered the transfer portal, the release said. The player eventually entered the portal but never visited or got an offer from Ole Miss and transferred to another school.
Ole Miss coach Chris Beard did not receive any penalties because he was not personally involved in the violations and was not aware of them, according to the release.
The NCAA also found that the Rebels failed to disassociate from an unnamed booster as required by a 2017 infractions case.
