Eleven people were killed and 27 injured on Sunday when a tour bus collided with a timber-laden truck near Akhisar in Manisa province, western Turkey, the Manisa governor’s office said.
The crash happened near the Akhisar toll gates on the Gebze-Orhangazi-İzmir motorway. Traffic-camera footage published by the DHA news agency showed the bus reversing after missing a junction when the truck struck it from behind. Both vehicles overturned. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi said on X. “We are closely following the situation, in coordination with all the institutions concerned,” he added.
Prosecutors said three people had been detained: the bus driver, the truck driver and the bus’s spare driver, who was also its owner.
The governor’s office reported 27 people injured; prosecutors said 26 were taken to hospital.
The crash comes amid a high annual toll from road accidents in Turkey. Such accidents killed 6,035 people in 2025, down 5 percent from the previous year, while 403,937 were injured, up 4.9 percent, Turkish Statistical Institute data showed.
