Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have neutralised two terrorists and recovered four AK-47 rifles and eight motorcycles during clearance operations in Sokoto State.
The operations, conducted on Thursday, October 15, 2026, also led to the recovery of ammunition, communication equipment and other items from the terrorists.
The Media Information Officer of the task force, Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.
Danja said troops of Sector 2 first encountered the terrorists at Waria Forest, where they engaged them in a firefight, neutralising one of the suspects.
He said the troops recovered two AK-47 rifles and two motorcycles during the encounter.
“In a subsequent encounter at Sarma Village, troops engaged another group of terrorists in a firefight, neutralising one and forcing others to flee, abandoning their equipment,” the statement said.
According to him, further exploitation of the area resulted in the recovery of six additional motorcycles, two AK-47 rifles, four magazines, 23 rounds of ammunition and a communication device.
The recoveries brought the total number of AK-47 rifles recovered to four and motorcycles to eight.
Danja said the successes demonstrated the commitment of troops of Operation Fansan Yamma to dismantling terrorist networks and restoring peace and security across the joint operations area.
“These successes underscore the sustained commitment of troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantling terrorist networks and restoring lasting peace and security across the Joint Operations Area,” he said.
He also commended members of the public for their continued support and cooperation with security agencies.
The task force urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to the nearest security outpost to assist ongoing military operations.
The clearance operations form part of sustained efforts by security forces to weaken terrorist groups operating in the North-West region.
