(ANSA) - ROME, 16 OTT - Air traffic in Italy was suffering major disruption early on Friday due to a series of problems with the data-transmission network supporting air-traffic control services across the country.
As a result some flights were delayed while others were cancelled outright.
At Rome's Fiumicino airport, for example, four departing flights had been cancelled, to Milan Linate, Riyadh, Tirana and Trieste, at the time of writing, while around 20 others were delayed by between 15 minutes and a hour.
Passengers have been told to check with their airlines about the status of their flights.
Civil-aviation authority Enav said the air-traffic management capacity was down by 50% and ruled out the possibility that the problem was caused by a cyberattack or sabotage. (ANSA).
