The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has commended the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) for progress in formalising artisanal gold trading and channelling the trade through regulated channels.
Speaking at the African Minerals Policy Forum during Mining in Motion 2026, Karim Dahou, Deputy Director of the OECD’s Global Relations and Cooperation Directorate, said the organisation welcomed Ghana’s efforts to strengthen oversight of the artisanal gold sector.
“We welcome the progress made by GoldBod in channelling artisanal gold through formal, regulated channels,” he said, highlighting gold’s central role in Ghana’s economy and its potential to generate revenue for investment in other critical minerals.
Mr Dahou also reaffirmed the OECD’s readiness to support Ghana’s efforts to strengthen governance in the gold sector.
He said Ghana’s experience could contribute to broader international efforts to develop transparent, competitive and inclusive mineral supply chains.
