Hyperpigmentation is one of the most common skincare concerns, but short of expensive laser treatments or harsh chemical peels, is there anything you can do topically to fade its appearance? Powerful yet gentle, Korean skincare label Tosowoong is gaining attention on social media for its Arbutin 7.0 + TXA 4.0 formula that combines two of the most popular brightening ingredients of the moment: arbutin and tranexamic acid.
Whether it’s melasma, sunspots or post-acne marks, the cream acts as a targeted treatment for discolouration, but it does so much more than that. It is regularly praised for its hydrating properties and for its part in a glass-skin-giving routine.

A targeted treatment for dark spots and hyperpigmentation
Dark spot correctors are nothing new, but Tosowoong has been dubbed a “game-changer” for hyperpigmentation by combining two brightening actives. The key ingredients, arbutin at 7 per cent and tranexamic acid (TXA) at 4 per cent, are high concentrations and act in similar and complementary ways.
Arbutin is a naturally occurring substance, extracted from bearberry, blueberry and broom plants. Used for centuries due to its brightening and soothing properties, it works by inhibiting tyrosinase, an enzyme involved in melanin production, all without irritating or stressing the skin barrier. Tranexamic acid, meanwhile, is a synthetic derivative of the amino acid lysine. Originally used in medicine for its effects on blood clotting, it has been co-opted by the skincare industry when it was found to improve the appearance of pigmentation, post-acne marks and melasma-related discolouration. The ingredient is also known for its gentleness.
What other active ingredients does it contain?
Alongside the two hyperpigmentation heroes above, this Korean face cream is enriched with niacinamide, glutathione, ceramide NP, and Centella asiatica to support the brightening, moisturising and complexion-evening properties.
Niacinamide, also known as vitamin B3, is a ubiquitously used ingredient in skincare to help improve the appearance of uneven skin tone, support the skin barrier, reduce redness and maintain moisture levels. Glutathione is an antioxidant that is popular in Korean skincare. It helps protect against oxidative stress and has a brightening effect. Ceramide NP mimics lipids found naturally in the skin to support the skin barrier and limit transepidermal water loss. Soothing Centella asiatica is a botanical that is another K-skincare favourite for calming irritation and balancing the complexion.

How to use it in your skincare routine
Apply Tosowoong’s Arbutin 7.0 + TXA 4.0 morning and night to cleansed skin and follow with SPF in the AM. Introduce gradually into your routine to minimise the chance of irritation.
When can you expect to see results?
The results from this cream will not happen overnight. Consistent usage is the key to success, but I found that in just a few weeks, there was already a difference in visible pigmentation. Using sun cream in the morning after application is essential, as UV can exacerbate pigmentation and undermine the results.
Who should use the Tosowoong Arbutin 7% + TXA 4% cream?
Those with post-acne marks, sunspots or a lacklustre complexion will see the best results from incorporating this cream into their skincare routine. The actives have a brightening effect on the complexion, while also supporting hydration and the skin barrier. It can be used by all skin types, even those prone to sensitivities, but a slow and steady approach is advised to minimise risk. The texture is lightweight, fast-absorbing and leaves a pleasant skin feel.
