Mokokchung, Oct 20: A 14-goal thriller between Kiphire and Dimapur, a comeback win for Mon and an emphatic 8–1 victory for hosts Mokokchung highlighted Tuesday’s action at the 25th Dr. T. Ao Trophy Inter-District Football Championship in Ungma.
Kiphire and Dimapur set the tone for a spectacular day, playing out a remarkable 7–7 draw in the opening match. Both sides found the net repeatedly in an attacking contest, but neither could find the decisive goal as they shared the points.
Mon came from behind to beat Noklak 2–1 in the second fixture, showing resilience to turn the match around and claim victory.
Wokha, meanwhile, secured a hard-fought 1–0 win over Tuensang. The narrow margin reflected a closely contested encounter, with Wokha holding on to their advantage to take all three points.
The day ended with a dominant display from the hosts, as Mokokchung overwhelmed Meluri 8–1. The emphatic win was the biggest result of Tuesday’s fixtures, with Mokokchung producing a commanding attacking performance before their home crowd.
The matches were played at Renpo Lu Astro Turf in Ungma, Mokokchung, as the silver jubilee edition of Nagaland’s premier inter-district football tournament continued.
The tournament will resume on October 22, with four matches scheduled at the same venue. Longleng will take on Tseminyu, Shamator will face Kohima, Noklak will meet Dimapur, while Zunheboto will play Kiphire.
