Vice President Kashim Shettima has said President Bola Tinubu holds traditional rulers in high esteem because of their role in promoting national unity, peace and development.
Shettima stated this on Thursday when he received the 17th Emir of Gumel, Dr Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani, on a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He described traditional rulers as indispensable partners in strengthening national security, fostering peaceful coexistence and driving development.

“Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government continues to hold traditional rulers in high esteem as the fathers of the nation and vital partners in advancing national security and unity,” the Vice President said.
Shettima described traditional rulers as custodians of Nigeria’s cultural heritage and values.
“Traditional rulers serve as our parents and the mirror of our society, safeguarding our noble traditions of peace,” he said.
He commended the new Emir for his commitment to unity and peaceful coexistence, describing him as a combination of traditional royalty and modern technological expertise.
The Vice President expressed confidence that the Emir’s background in technology and public service would contribute to the development of the Gumel Emirate and beyond.
Shettima also pledged his continued personal support for the people of the emirate, particularly in healthcare and education.
In his remarks, the Emir expressed gratitude to the Tinubu administration for its support over the years, especially during the death of his predecessor, Ahmad Muhammad Sani II.
He said the Gumel Emirate Council would sustain its relationship with the Federal Government to improve the welfare of the people across various sectors.
The Emir also prayed for the re-election of Tinubu and Shettima in the 2027 general elections, while calling for peace and unity among Nigerians during the electioneering period.
Members of the emirate council and other prominent indigenes of the area were present at the meeting.
