Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, to represent President Bola Tinubu at Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s second-term inauguration.
In a statement on Friday, Stanley Nkwocha, the vice president’s spokesman, said a ceremony was scheduled to be held at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, Ado-Ekiti.
He said Mr Oyebanji would formally mark the beginning of another four-year tenure for him and his deputy, Monisade Afuye.
The governor is the first in the state’s history to win re-election and succeed himself since its creation in 1996.
Mr Shettima arrived at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport, where he was received by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Mr Oyebanji and other dignitaries.
“On behalf of the president, the vice president will witness a significant milestone in the state, where governors have historically been unable to secure consecutive terms, with successive administrations frequently changing hands between political parties,” he said.
Mr Nkwocha said the inauguration, themed “The Good Work Continues,” is expected to consolidate the administration’s development agenda.
Mr Shettima is accompanied by Kano State Deputy Governor Aminu Sule Garo, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Hadejia; Senator Muntari Dandutse, Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake; and the president’s Special Adviser on Special Duties in the Office of the Vice President, Aliyu Modibbo Umar, among other officials.
