Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk praised Barcelona’s quality after Hansi Flick’s side recovered from an early setback to secure a 4-1 Champions League victory in Istanbul.
The Turkish side initially threatened to make life difficult for Barcelona, but struggled to maintain their approach as the visitors took control after the break.
Buruk admitted that his players made poor decisions under pressure, while acknowledging the quality and understanding within Flick’s squad.
Buruk on where Galatasaray went wrong vs Barcelona
Buruk believes Galatasaray’s tendency to rush their decisions contributed to Barcelona’s comeback.
The manager felt his players relied too heavily on long balls instead of recognising when they could retain possession and build their attacks.
“We were too hasty. Barcelona pressed, but there was no need to play every ball long.
“While we’re playing, we also need to analyse the game well. The players need to better understand the game and experience it.

“We did that to some extent, but when we fell behind, we weren’t able to recover,” he analysed, as per Mundo Deportivo.
The Galatasaray manager also pointed to a change in his team’s approach towards the end of the first half, when they began retreating closer to their own goal.
“In the first half, up until a certain point, we did what we wanted.
“Towards the end of the first half, we retreated towards our own area, something I didn’t particularly like.”
Barcelona’s ability to exploit those moments ultimately helped them turn a difficult contest into a convincing European victory.
Barcelona’s quality leaves a lasting impression on Buruk
Despite the result, Buruk had words of praise for Flick’s players, highlighting the understanding that allows Barcelona to maintain their style under pressure.

“We played against players who know each other by heart, who are like machines. We’re sad because we lost.”
Buruk also assessed Rafa Leao’s contribution, acknowledging the player’s involvement in Galatasaray’s only goal while recognising that he is still going through a process.
“He did a good job during the match. He also provided the assist for the goal. It’s not easy. He’s also going through a process.”
Galatasaray boss proud despite heavy Barcelona defeat
While disappointed with the scoreline, Buruk insisted that his team had represented Turkish football positively on a major European stage.
“We represented Turkish football well. At times, we showed that Turkish football can achieve great things.
“Both the stadium and the atmosphere created by the fans showed that we are a team worthy of the Champions League,” he concluded.
