For each of the past two Super Bowls, the NFL announced the halftime performer in September. As October enters the homestretch, there has been no announcement as to Super Bowl LXI in L.A.
On Tuesday, Dave Brooks of Puck reported that Jay-Z, who produces the annual spectacle, has selected himself to do the honors for the next Super Bowl.
Per the report, Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus also were considered.
The NFL first hired Jay-Z in 2019 to produce the Super Bowl halftime show, with a renewal in 2024. The arrangement reportedly pays $5 million per year.
Brooks notes that Jay-Z could make the announcement this weekend, when he plays a pair of shows at SoFi Stadium, the site of the next Super Bowl. There presumably would be some sort of big splash in conjunction with ESPN/ABC which is televising the Super Bowl.
