Hyundai Engineering said on the 15th that it has completed a three-year climate change response program in Vietnam's Thanh Hoa province and transferred its education and environmental facilities to local institutions.
The company held a handover ceremony at Hong Duc University in Thanh Hoa on the 14th, turning over a climate change education center to the university and a tree-planting site to Ben En National Park.
Hyundai Engineering established the education center at Hong Duc University in 2024 and has since run programs for students, teachers and residents in the province. The programs taught local high school students about the causes and effects of climate change and included plastic recycling, waste separation, cleanup activities and a recycling idea contest. Employee volunteer teams also joined climate education and tree-planting work on site.
Hong Duc University will now operate the center on its own. It plans to expand the program beyond the 11 high schools in Thanh Hoa that it previously covered to about 720,000 elementary, middle and high school students, and to offer climate change courses as part of its regular curriculum, teaching about 3,000 incoming students each year.
The project also included planting aimed at restoring the local ecosystem. Hyundai Engineering planted about 44,000 melaleuca trees across 10 hectares around Song Muc Lake in Ben En National Park. The park has taken over the site and will manage it using its own funds, state budget allocations and corporate sponsorships. Ben En National Park plans to plant trees across a total of 200 hectares around the lake by 2030. Hyundai Engineering will continue monitoring the site to ensure the program is sustained locally.
The project is the 13th under Hyundai Engineering's "New Hope School" corporate social responsibility initiative, which has built education facilities in overseas project areas since 2010. It was planned in connection with the company's construction of the Aeon Mall Thanh Hoa store. "This project is meaningful in that it has laid a foundation for the local community to carry forward the results and build a sustainable future on its own," a Hyundai Engineering official said.
