The Lagos State First Lady, Dr Ibironke Sanwo-Olu, and former international footballer Chief Segun Odegbami are among dignitaries expected at the Breast Cancer Awareness Ladies’ Inter-Club Tennis Tournament at Ikoyi Club 1938 on Saturday, October 24.
The event will combine competitive tennis with health education and wellness activities aimed at raising awareness about breast cancer and encouraging early detection.
The Lady Captain of the club’s Tennis Section, Nora Azubuike, expressed delight at the growing interest in the tournament, confirming that the First Lady had indicated her intention to attend.
The Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, has also confirmed attendance.
“We are pleased with the build up in terms of registration and all other activities.
“Her Excellency has confirmed she will be with us just as we have other top dignitaries expected to grace the event.
“I have said repeatedly that this event is much more than tennis.
“We need women to know more about breast cancer and other health issues,” Azubuike said.
According to her, Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Lagos Country Club and Heritage Club will join the host club, Ikoyi Club 1938, for the competition, which will be contested exclusively through doubles matches.
Beyond the tennis matches, the programme will feature a breast cancer awareness talk, education on breast self-examination and survivor stories, with survivors sharing personal experiences to inspire hope and encourage early detection.
