A woman’s attempt to protect her son from the consequences of a traffic accident has led to a separate case of suspected forgery of an official document after surveillance footage contradicted her account of who was driving.
According to a security source , the case began when a woman reported that her vehicle had been struck by another car whose driver, described as a young man wearing a dishdasha, allegedly fled the scene. Detectives traced the vehicle seen in the footage and found that it was registered in the name of a woman. When questioned, she initially claimed that she had been driving at the time and had left without noticing the collision, Al-Anba reports.
However, surveillance footage showed a man wearing a dishdasha behind the wheel, casting doubt on her statement. When confronted with the recordings and the investigation findings, the woman withdrew her earlier account and admitted that her son had been driving. She told investigators that she had claimed responsibility because she feared the consequences he might face.
The son subsequently admitted that he had been driving when the accident occurred, corroborating his mother’s revised statement. Investigators are expected to question him further over the circumstances of his alleged departure from the scene. Following the admissions, the statements and information provided by the mother were separated from the original traffic accident file, and a separate case was registered under the heading of “Forgery of an Official Document.”
