Fifteen oil, gas and power projects seeking more than $16 billion in investment were presented at African Energy Week (AEW) 2026 in Cape Town on October 12. The opportunities span upstream exploration and production, midstream infrastructure, downstream facilities and gas-fired power generation, with funding requirements ranging from early-stage development capital to major project financing.
Rene Awambeng, Managing Partner at Premier Invest, presented the portfolio during the Deal Room session hosted by the investment advisory firm. The proposals included equity investments, acquisition financing, development capital and debt facilities, offering investors exposure to producing assets, tests discoveries, exploration prospects and infrastructure projects across the continent.
“The Premier Invest Deal Room was established with a powerful objective,” Awambeng said. “To connect quality African energy transaction with global capital.”
The upstream portfolio included a Southern African integrated energy company seeking up to $200 million for a 30% equity stake. The company aims to increase production from approximately 30,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 80,000 bpd by 2029, while expanding its downstream and energy-transition businesses.
An East African heavy-oil producer is seeking $200 million to $250 million in debt with a $350 million development program. The project targets an increase from 600 bpd to 10,000 bpd in its first phase, followed by 20,000 bpd and export infrastructure in the second phase.
Another proposal seeks approximately $86 million to develop a tested nearshore oil discovery in Central Africa. Two wells recorded test rates of up to 1,604 bpd, with development plans involving a mobile offshore production unit, additional wells and a 10-km pipeline connecting the field to onshore facilities.
An offshore gas-condensate project in Southern Africa is seeking $50 million for a 45% participating interest. The discovery has mean contingent resources of 785 million barrels of oil equivalent, with a second appraisal well underway and potential gas markets including fertilizer production, power generation and LNG exports.
Exploration opportunities included a Southern African onshore prospect with estimated gross recoverable potential exceeding one billion barrels. The company is seeking approximately $25 million through a planned Canadian exchange listing to drill its flagship prospect. A separate offshore discovery is seeking $8 million to support well re-entry and development, targeting first oil within approximately 24 months.
Acquisition financing was another priority, with a West African producing oil block seeking $112 million to $126 million in debt for the purchase of a 60% stake. The asset currently produces around 4,000 bpd, with a target of 23,000 bpd by 2031 and additional potential from substantial contingent gas resources.
Midstream infrastructure featured a Southern African LPG import terminal seeking approximately $55 million for expansion. The project would increase storage capacity from 5,5500 tons to 20,000 tons, strengthening supply to domestic customers and neighbouring markets.
The gas-to-power proposals included a 180 MW combined cycle plant in West Africa seeking €250 million in financing. The proposed funding comprises a €212.5 million senior lease facility and a €37.5 million complementary facility, supporting additional generation capacity amid rising electricity demand.
A second power-related proposal seeks $5 million in development funding for a planned $200 million gas-to-compute project in Southern Africa. The concept integrates natural gas supply, dedicated electricity generation and AI data center infrastructure, with project financing envisaged following pre-feasibility work.
Concluding his presentation Awambeng, said energy security has become a priority for governments – creating opportunities for African producers and infrastructure developers – concluding that the deal room aims to provide transparency, market intelligence and practical opportunities into today’s strongest partnerships and projects.
