A team from NITI Aayog, led by its full-time member A. Balasubramanian, inspected the operations of the 150 million litres per day desalination plant at Nemmeli on Thursday.
A press release said discussions were held on the functioning of the desalination plant and its role in meeting the water requirements of Chennai.
The team also explored the possibilities of adopting advanced desalination technologies at the Nemmeli plant and replicating successful practices in other States.
The discussions also covered ways to improve urban water management and address future requirements.
Chennai Metrowater officials briefed the team on the functioning of the desalination plant, treatment processes, and measures executed to strengthen water resource management. NITI Aayog Deputy Adviser R. Saravanabhavan and Metrowater officials were present.
