The Dallas Cowboys may have suffered a brutal loss on Sunday night, and it happened on the game's opening play. After winning the toss, Dallas elected to receive the ball to try and get out to a good start. Instead of having two returners deep, they opted to only have Kavontae Turpin deep, adding another body to the blocking up front.
Turpin was able to find a small crease and made his way out to the 34-yard line, but was it worth it? Turpin hurt his ribs on the tackle, and was seen in serious pain while getting checked out on the sideline.
He's already been ruled out for the rest of the game. That moves reserve running back Tyler Goodson into the primary returner role for the game. Turpin is a three-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro, including First-Team in 2024.
This also impacts the Cowboys' wide receiver rotation and in the backfield, as the Cowboys use Turpin as their gadget player. Jonathan Mingo will move up in the rotation to WR4 behind CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens and Ryan Flounoy.
Turpin has four receptions for 39 yards this season, with two rushing for 10 yards and a touchdown. He's nine receiving yards short of 1,000 for his career.
