At least 351 children have been killed in the Gaza Strip since a "ceasefire" was announced in October 2025, the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) has said, according to Palestinian news agency WAFA.
In a statement yesterday (22 October), Unicef Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa Edouard Beigbeder called on Israeli authorities to ensure transparent and rigorous accountability for cases in which children are killed or sustain injuries resulting in permanent disabilities.
Over the past six days alone, eight children have been killed and 20 others injured in Gaza, Beigbeder said, urging Israel to take effective steps to prevent further violence and uphold the principles of distinction under international humanitarian law.
"This level of violence against children is unacceptable," he said.
Children who survive attacks also face significant barriers to physical and psychological recovery amid the collapse of Gaza's healthcare system, Beigbeder added.
Around 800,000 children in Gaza remain displaced, while an estimated 60,000 have lost one or both parents during the war or since the ceasefire, Unicef reported last week.
The agency stressed that nearly every child in Gaza requires mental health support as displacement continues and access to essential services deteriorates.
Since October 2023, Israel's war on Gaza has killed more than 73,300 Palestinians, according to health authorities in the territory, Al Jazeera reported in August.
