Peris Maranga shared the surprising turn of events on Facebook, prompting a conversation about whether Kenyans working abroad would consider returning home for a lucrative job opportunity.
According to her post, she casually applied for the Nairobi position, completed an online interview, and eventually received an offer of KSh 387,000 per month.
The offer has presented an interesting question for someone already working as cabin crew in Dubai: would it make sense to leave a job abroad and return to Kenya for the new opportunity?
For many Kenyans, working in the Gulf offers exposure to international workplaces, opportunities to travel and the possibility of earning money in foreign currency.
However, a well-paying job back home could also offer the prospect of being closer to family, avoiding the demands of living abroad and building a career in Kenya.
At KSh 387,000 a month, the Nairobi offer translates to approximately KSh 4.64 million annually before any applicable deductions, making it an opportunity worth considering.
Still, salary is only one part of the equation. Benefits, job security, career progression, living expenses and personal priorities can all influence whether returning home is the right decision.
Maranga's dilemma has raised a question many Kenyans in the diaspora may relate to: when an unexpected opportunity presents itself at home, is the financial and personal value enough to give up life abroad?
"Would you leave your cabin crew job in Dubai and move back home, or stay here?" she asked.
