Andoni Iraola has confirmed something very exciting for Liverpool.
The jury is still out on the Spaniard coach at Anfield. Iraola arrived with little expectations. That's because Arne Slot set the bar so low in his final season in charge of the club.
Under Slot, things became really dark last season. Liverpool lost it's identity. Anfield had turned very toxic and the bare minimum was lacking on the pitch.
Slot's players didn't look like they wanted to play for him. They were directionless and didn't even put the bare minimum graft in.
It was a very disappointing time, and coming into a toxic environment like that will have been no easy job for Iraola.
Right now, it's a role he is still getting to grips with.
Andoni Iraola shows positive signs
However, there are some things that look to have changed for the better. Just take the way Liverpool play as an example. The Reds are actually pressing with intensity again. There's a bit of a spark in the team.
They might not be playing good football, but at least they are working their socks off on the pitch.
Add to that the fact that Iraola is willing to work with younger players. Under him Trey Nyoni is getting more minutes. Jeremy Jacquet has been established as one of the best defenders in the league.
And then there's the example of Lewis Koumas, who out of nowhere has become a key player off the bench. It's very similar to what Jurgen Klopp was capable of doing - squeezing every bit of potential out of every player.
Andoni Iraola confirms brilliant news
And the good times are very much on the way. Iraola's building a hard-working team and he is also getting some of the final jigsaw pieces of his puzzle back.
Liverpool's big problem for well over a year now has been the right-back position. That is an area where they still haven't really replaced the impact of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Conor Bradley's injury suffered last season has been a major blow. But there is good news on the way. The Norther Irishman is slowly coming back to fitness.
Iraola confirmed that Bradley is not far away from training with the team now.
“They are both doing very well. I think they are in a good place. Conor is not so far from training with the group – not like full training but doing some things with the group. Hugo is a little bit behind that but that was always the plan. He is still doing very well according to the plan," Iraola said in his press conference ahead of the Brentford game about Bradley and Hugo Ekitike.
