A businessman in Gujarat’s Rajkot was shot dead by masked robbers who snatched a bag containing gold and silver worth around Rs 1.5 crore from him. Chilling CCTV footage captures the horrifying moments as the businessman chases the fleeing robbers before one of them opens fire.
The incident took place on Wednesday night and the victim has been identified as Laljibhai Sardhara, an employee of Tanvi Gold Company.
The CCTV footage shows Sardhara starting his two-wheeler when two masked robbers approach him from behind and snatch the bag. As the duo flee with the loot, Sardhara is seen chasing them in a desperate attempt to catch the robbers and recover the bag.
But the chase takes a deadly turn when one of the robbers opens fire at Sardhara before the duo escape in a maroon car. The robber fired three rounds during the attack.
Sardhara was rushed to a private hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
The police have launched a probe to trace the accused, with personnel reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding areas to establish the suspects’ movements and escape route.
Authorities have also set up blockades on roads leading out of Rajkot and alerted police in other districts to help track down the duo.
Meanwhile, the incident has triggered anger in Rajkot’s bullion market, with traders raising concerns over their safety.
Gold trader Rameshbhai Sakaria said such incidents were occurring repeatedly and accused the authorities of failing to take concrete steps to protect traders.
He has sought an appointment with Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi, who is scheduled to visit Rajkot on Thursday, to raise the issue of traders’ security.
