KOTA BARU: The daughter of a nurse who was stabbed by her husband attended the Sessions Court here today to follow proceedings involving her stepfather, whom she believes is not mentally ill.
Nik Ruziany Nik Ahmad Ruzi, 19, said she was determined to be present to hear the charges against her 44-year-old stepfather, whom she described as cruel for stabbing her mother.
"Today I am here with several family members, although my heart hurts to see my stepfather, who treated my mother in a way that left her hospitalised.
"I accept the court's decision to send him to Hospital Bahagia in Perak for mental treatment, but as a stepdaughter, I am sure he is not mentally ill.
"What I can say is that the man's actions have traumatised our whole family, including my grandmother, who was also injured in last Monday's incident," she said when met at the court.
She said the family would not feel safe until her stepfather was given an appropriate sentence.
"I pray that he receives a sentence that matches his actions. We will continue to feel threatened until he is punished.
"We siblings have become numb, because every time they fought, my stepfather often threatened to kill my mother, and we also have evidence," she said.
Earlier, the unemployed man was charged in the Sessions Court with stabbing his wife with a knife and injuring his mother-in-law at a house in Padang Lepai, Ketereh, last Monday.
Shahrul Shahrizal Che Shaari, 44, pleaded not guilty and claimed trial after the charges were read to him separately before judges Zulkifli Ablah and Nik Habri Muhamad.
On Monday, the nurse was critically injured after being stabbed six times by her husband at their home in Kampung Padang Lepai, near Kadok.
The victim, 44, sustained serious stab wounds to her body and neck and is receiving treatment at Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital.
