Manchester United will take on AFC Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon after a seven-match winless run. The Red Devils have not registered a victory in the Premier League in almost two months, since defeating Ipswich Town at the end of August.
United have played the Cherries 26 times, winning 14. Bournemouth have come out on top five times, with there being seven draws.
Here are three storylines to get the blood racing.
Poor recent record
Unfortunately, United are developing the habit of collecting bogey sides, but few are worse than Bournemouth as of late.
Whilst Michael Carrick’s side dominate the historical record, it is the side from the south coast that have had the most to smile about in recent years. United have not beaten Bournemouth in their last six encounters, with there being four draws and two losses.
The two defeats have also, worryingly, been 0-3 defeats at Old Trafford, an unthinkable result for United on Sunday in this current context.
In fact, the last win for United was a 0-1 victory at the Vitality Stadium in 2023.
Goals galore
This fixture is also usually entertaining in terms of goals.
Last season saw a rollercoaster 4-4 draw between the two sides, and the match also finished 2-2 on the south coast.
In fact, there has never been a goalless draw between the two sides in all 26 encounters.
There have also been a total of 21 goals in the last five matches between the two teams.
Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford joy
It is safe to say that neither player is in their best moment.
Fernandes has struggled for form and has been involved in controversy off the pitch after his recent outburst against the coaches’ tactics following the 1-4 defeat to 1907 Como.
Rashford has also found himself left out of the starting line-up and having little effect on proceedings lately.
Nonetheless, both have good records versus the Cherries.
Fernandes has nine goals and assists in nine appearances, whilst Marcus Rashford has six in seven matches against them.
