New details have emerged about the rented Voula residence of Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis, including the landlord’s position on unpaid rent and the ongoing police seal on the property.
The house, which Mazonakis personally helped design in collaboration with the architectural firm of Tasos Zeppos, was not owned by the singer but rented.
Known for its striking interiors, artwork and distinctive decoration, the residence was a place Mazonakis particularly loved. He frequently welcomed visitors and showcased the home, which also appeared in interior design magazines, entertainment publications, television series, music videos and social media posts.
Recent reports suggested that the singer’s family did not intend to continue maintaining the property.
However, journalist Giorgos Liagas addressed the situation on Tuesday, October 13, clarifying the landlord’s position and dismissing reports that the family had been asked to pay outstanding rent.
Landlord Seeks Access to Sealed Property
Liagas said claims that the landlord had demanded unpaid rent from Mazonakis’ family were incorrect.
“It has been reported that the owner of the house has asked the family for the unpaid rent. This is not true,” he said.
According to Liagas, the landlord had shown respect following the singer’s death and had not requested any money from the family.
Instead, the owner was reportedly seeking police permission to have the property unsealed so it could be cleaned, the family’s belongings could be collected and the residence could eventually be rented again.
The house remains sealed as the relevant procedures continue.
Light Still On in Mazonakis’ Room
Liagas also shared a personal observation about the property, saying he regularly passes the house in Voula and continues to see flowers outside.
He said the light in Mazonakis’ upstairs bedroom remains on, despite the house being sealed.
“I still go past Mazonakis’ house in Voula, and there are still flowers outside. The light is still on upstairs, in Giorgos Mazonakis’ room. No one has gone to turn it off,” Liagas said.
He described the sight as shocking, explaining that he sometimes passes the residence at night and sees the light still burning.
The sealed home and the flowers left outside have become poignant reminders of the singer’s absence, as questions remain over when the property will be reopened and what will happen to his belongings.
