The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) are assessing locations for a proposed police station and additional posts in Waterloo to improve security coverage and strengthen responses to growing community needs.
Assistant Inspector-General of Police Brima Kanneh, Regional Commander of Freetown-East, led a team of senior officers on Tuesday, October 20, to inspect three proposed locations within the Waterloo Division, according to the Sierra Leone Police Media Team.
The delegation included Commissioner Alhaji Ibrahim Mohamed Sama, popularly known as Delta 1, and Waterloo Divisional Local Unit Commander Superintendent Bankolay Mansaray.
The team first visited the former Virtues Cottage recreational compound in Campbell Town, which has been proposed for lease to the police for use as a station. Officers also assessed a separate plot of land that the Campbell Town community has allocated for a police post.
The delegation later visited Newton Police Post before proceeding to Agriculture Land at Six Mile, where Estate Officer Abdul Karim Kamara presented a proposed building for consideration as another police post.
According to the police, the proposed facility at Six Mile could extend security coverage to Agriculture Land, Mogbafti, Kpoubu and Kattu Town, while reducing operational pressure on existing police facilities.
The inspection also brought attention to welfare concerns involving Operational Support Division (OSD) personnel deployed at Waterloo Prisons. The team raised questions about the provision of rations for the officers, particularly in comparison with arrangements for military personnel serving at the same location.
AIG Kanneh thanked the delegation for its work and said he would brief the Inspector-General of Police on the findings and recommendations from the inspection to facilitate further action.
The proposed facilities are intended to strengthen police presence across Waterloo and surrounding communities. However, the police statement did not specify a construction timeline, budget or date for the establishment of the proposed station and posts.
