Indianapolis-based Indiana University Health has become the first health system in the U.S. to administer Pixclara, a newly FDA-approved brain cancer imaging drug.
The drug is approved for use in adults and children with suspected recurrent glioma, according to an Oct. 6 news release from IU Health.
Pixclara helps physicians determine whether changes seen on imaging represent cancer recurrence or treatment effects, the release said.
The milestone is part of a broader push into theranostics at IU Health, which launched a Theranostics Center of Excellence in August, backed in part by a $20 million philanthropic gift.
