SEREMBAN: A post-mortem found that a female civil servant who was found murdered in Nilai on Thursday died from pressure applied to her neck.
Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the cause of death was determined following a five-hour post-mortem at the Forensic Medicine Department of Hospital Tuanku Ja'afar (HTJ) here today.
"The post-mortem was conducted from 9.40am to 2.30pm by Dr Akma Nurain Fairuz Mahamad Arif at HTJ today.
"Initial findings indicate that the cause of death was pressure applied to the neck region," he said in a statement.
However, Alzafny noted that physical examinations also uncovered three stab wounds caused by a sharp weapon — two to the abdomen and one to the right cheek.
The remains of Norhazwani Ibrahim, 35, were brought out of the HTJ Forensic Medicine Department at 3pm immediately after documentation was completed.
Her remains were transported to the KLIA Quarters Mosque in Nilai in a Customs Department hearse for funeral prayers before being brought back to Kelantan for burial.
Several family members, colleagues, and representatives from the Customs Department and the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) were present at the hospital throughout the post-mortem.
It was previously reported that the victim's husband surrendered at the Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi police station in Sepang, Selangor, admitting to killing his wife at a government quarters in Nilai.
Alzafny said the suspect has been remanded for seven days starting Friday to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
In Machang, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the suspect, 35, had a history of imprisonment for drug-related offences and had recently been released from prison.
"The suspect was just released from prison and has a history of imprisonment related to drug offences. That is what we can confirm," he told reporters after the Home Ministry's Kampung Angkat Madani and Sekolah Angkat Madani programmes at Sekolah Kebangsaan Jambu Lawar today.
Saifuddin said Norhazwani's remains would be transported by road to Tumpat, Kelantan, and were expected to arrive tonight.
He added that the victim leaves behind two children, aged five and six, and expressed hope that he would be able to attend the funeral, subject to his schedule.
It was previously reported that Norhazwani, a Customs officer, was found murdered at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) quarters on Thursday, with her husband named as the suspect.
