Veteran journalist Christiane Amanpour has announced plans to leave CNN in June 2027, bringing an end to her 43-year career with the international news network.
Amanpour, 68, announced her decision on Monday, saying she had spent several months reflecting on her future before deciding to part ways with the broadcaster.
“After many months of thought and a few sleepless nights, I have decided to separate from CNN, my partner of 43 fantastic years!” she said in a statement.
The renowned journalist expressed optimism about exploring new opportunities after her departure while reaffirming her support for CNN and its commitment to independent journalism.
“I look forward to interesting new projects down the line, and will always be rooting for CNN and maintaining its history of independent journalism,” she said.
Amanpour added: “Remember: always be truthful, not neutral.”
CNN chairman Mark Thompson confirmed her planned departure in a memo to staff, revealing that he and the journalist had been discussing the decision for several months.
“Like so many CNNers who will hear the news today, I’m very sorry to see her go, but I’ve come to accept that this is the right time for her, both personally and professionally,” Thompson said.
Amanpour joined CNN in the early 1980s as a news assistant before rising to become one of the network’s most prominent international correspondents.
