POLICE have stepped up sniffer-dog patrols at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), particularly during peak hours, following several security incidents at the airport.
KLIA district police chief Assistant Commissioner M Ravi said the K9 unit, previously deployed periodically, would now conduct more frequent patrols at strategic locations, including areas around terminal entrances.
He said deployment was targeted according to passenger traffic patterns and operational needs, while ensuring the detection dogs had sufficient time to rest.
“The deployment is not continuous 24 hours a day because the dogs also need to rest. We need to consider peak hours and deploy them at appropriate times,” he said today.
Ravi said the patrols also took into account the sensitivities of airport users, with officers and detection dogs operating outside the terminal buildings, including around entrance areas.
He said the increased patrol frequency was intended to strengthen preventive security measures at KLIA and boost public confidence in the safeguards implemented by the authorities.
A check at KLIA Terminal 1 found K9 personnel conducting patrols outside the terminal, particularly around the departure and arrival levels, where passenger traffic is concentrated.
The patrols form part of efforts to enhance surveillance at strategic locations and improve security monitoring around the airport. - October 15, 2026
