Guwahati: Three youths, allegedly in an inebriated condition, riding a two-wheeler knocked down a pedestrian who was crossing the road near Paradise Hotel in Guwahati’s Silpukhuri area on Wednesday, October 21, casting a shadow over the Vijaya Dashami festivities in the city.
The pedestrian was badly injured in the collision, while the three riders also sustained injuries and their two-wheeler was damaged in the impact.
Local residents rushed to the spot and helped shift the injured to a hospital for treatment, a timely gesture that could prove crucial for those hurt. The condition of the injured, their identities, and whether the police have registered a case were not immediately known.

The accident came on a day when the city was in a celebratory mood, with Durga idol immersions under way at the designated ghats and traffic restrictions in force across several stretches to keep processions and regular vehicles moving in an orderly manner. The incident has once again drawn attention to the dangers of riding under the influence, particularly during festivals, when roads see heavier movement and celebrations often stretch late into the evening.
