Scatter Lab, the operator of the artificial intelligence chat service Zeta, said on the 12th that it will introduce default usage time limits and payment caps for teenage users within this year.
Teenage users of Zeta will be limited to three hours of use a day and a default payment cap of 100,000 won ($70) a month. The service will prompt users to take a break as they approach the time limit, and will block further use and payments once the limits are reached.
The caps come after calls for appropriate rules on how long teenagers can use AI chat services. Scatter Lab said it reviewed how digital services at home and abroad protect young users, joined discussions on user protection with government agencies and industry officials, and weighed internal measures to prevent overuse by teenagers.
"Creating an environment where teenage users can enjoy the service safely and healthily matters more than anything else," Scatter Lab CEO Kim Jong-yun said. "We will take an active part in discussions on user protection with the government and the industry, and continue to upgrade safeguards for young users to build an AI entertainment service that people can trust."
