The Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) has decided to join the new government being formed by Fatima Zahra El Mansouri, saying its participation would allow it to contribute to political reform, social justice and economic development.
The party’s political bureau announced the decision today following a meeting at its headquarters in Rabat to finalize its position on the ongoing government formation talks.
The decision followed consultations with El Mansouri, who is leading efforts to form the new administration, as well as deliberations within the party’s central committee and political bureau.
In a statement, the PPS said the talks had been marked by a positive atmosphere, mutual trust and broad agreement on key political priorities. It also took into account the proposed composition of the new governing coalition and the expected government program and coalition agreement.
The party said joining the government was the best option under the current circumstances to help advance democratic reform, protect freedoms and rights, improve public accountability and strengthen social and regional justice.
The PPS also pledged to make its participation effective and responsible, arguing that it should bring real added value to the reform process and help build on existing achievements.
The party said its decision was based on a mandate from its central committee, which had authorized the political bureau to determine the party’s position.
