KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa has criticised Bersatu for questioning the legality of tonight's emergency supreme council meeting, saying the party cannot take over the role of the court.
He said the meeting was compulsory as the coalition needed to discuss its preparations for the Melaka election.
"That's the problem. If we don't call them, they say they weren't called. When they are called, they come up with all sorts of excuses.
"The Bersatu secretary-general (Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali) cannot take over the court's role. And Bersatu is not the court. We uphold the rule of law.
"The court has made its decision. And we are allowed to contest and use the logo, which means we can carry out activities until the court says otherwise," he told reporters before the emergency PN meeting at Pas headquarters here.
He said the meeting had two main items on the agenda, namely feedback on the court order and the Melaka election.
"We are facing the Melaka election, so how can we not hold a meeting? If we don't hold a meeting, Bersatu will be the one to complain.
"We must also announce our candidates. And before announcing candidates, there must be discussions among the component parties," he said, adding that Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan had already announced theirs.
"So the meeting is compulsory. If the court says we can, then we must meet. Stop making excuses."
Annuar also questioned Bersatu's commitment to the coalition.
"I think what Bersatu is doing, shame on them. It will come back on them and people will ask what their real intention is. Is Bersatu still prepared to be with Perikatan Nasional? Or do they actually want to see Perikatan Nasional destroyed?"
Annuar said disloyalty by any party was a "very serious breach" under the constitution.
"We know Bersatu has breached discipline many times, including contesting against its own party's candidates. So, I think enough is enough. Let's move on and take part in the Melaka election together," he said.
He said Bersatu should attend the meeting even if it believed the gathering could not be held.
"Come. Sit down and have some coffee first. We have six parties, they need to hear from the other five.
"They will put out a press statement, right? They don't dare to come," he said.
Earlier, Azmin had warned that the meeting could carry serious legal implications as the coalition's registration had been cancelled.
PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan had said on Oct 22 that the coalition would invite Bersatu to an upcoming meeting after the High Court granted a stay against the Registrar of Societies' action.
