Munster have the relevant footage of the Gavin Coombes incident after he accused a Leinster star of grabbing his testicles, according to a report.
In the 39th minute, the visiting number eight told referee Andrew Brace that he had been the victim of being grabbed in the groin area, but the officials could not find the clip to support that claim.
It has been put in Brace’s report, however, which means citing commissioner Peter Ferguson will pour over the footage to decide whether to cite the Leinster player, who has so far been unnamed.
All footage available to citing commissioner
Those clips will apparently include one which could well support Coombes’ allegation, according to Irish Independent Chief Rugby Correspondent Rúaidhrí O’Connor.
“I understand Munster have clear footage of the incident that led to Gavin Coombes alleging that he’d been grabbed in the groin area by a Leinster player. That footage will be available to the citing commissioner,” O’Connor wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Munster boss Clayton McMillan was unsurprisingly asked about the incident in his post-match press conference, where he backed Coombes “100 per cent”.
The citing commissioner has 50 hours from the end of the game to decide whether to take it further and put the accused Leinster player in front of an independent panel.
“It’s one of those things that we leave in the hands of the powers that be,” McMillan told reporters. “All I know is that I back our players 100 per cent that if they make an allegation like that.
“They wouldn’t do it lightly, and that’s not the sort of person Gavin is, so we’ll see where that goes.”
That incident marred a thrilling clash between two arch-rivals as Leinster came from 13-0 down to defeat Munster 24-18 at the Aviva Stadium.
It was a frustrating second half for the visitors, who had put themselves in an excellent position at the interval.
Tadhg Beirne’s view of the clash
“You’ve got to give credit to Leinster,” Munster captain Tadhg Beirne said.
“The wind was strong, we had the advantage in the first half, and they capitalised on that [in the second], but I think the discipline is probably something we need to work on, particularly the second half of games at the moment.
“We’re kind of falling off a little bit and letting teams back into it through our ill-discipline, and it’s just giving teams a little bit of momentum or even a little bit of belief against us and making it more difficult for ourselves.
“Ultimately, I thought the first half we were really good, but second half we just compounded errors on our end, whether it was a penalty or just an individual skill error like myself, the ball going straight through my hands in the lineout and they score not long after that.
“So yeah, I think if we can clean those up, we’ll be in a much better place, but they did well to get the momentum and keep the foot on the peddle today.”
