Instinct, a San Francisco startup building AI agents that run your errands over text message, has raised $1 billion in a Series C round. The deal, completed on September 28, 2026, gives the company a post-money valuation of $10 billion.
Just weeks before this raise, Instinct’s previous funding round valued it at $2.5 billion. A fourfold jump in valuation over a few weeks is the kind of trajectory most startups only see in pitch decks.
The details of the raise
Sequoia Capital, Benchmark Capital and Coatue led the Series C. That is a heavyweight lineup for a company that opened its consumer product to the public only recently, and only by invitation.
Instinct launched one year before this funding announcement. The company rolled out an invite-only consumer service in August 2026. In other words, the $10 billion valuation arrived roughly a month after regular people could start trying the product, and only the ones who got an invite.
The $1 billion raised represents a tenth of the post-money valuation, which means investors bought into the company at a $9 billion pre-money price. The company’s implied worth climbed by several billion dollars between two funding rounds separated by weeks, not years.
What Instinct actually does
Instinct builds AI agents for personal assistance. The product works through SMS and text messages. Users send requests the way they would text a friend, and the agent handles the task on its own.
Instinct focuses on things like making bookings and placing phone calls autonomously. An autonomous agent is software that carries out multi-step jobs without a human approving each step, rather than simply answering questions like a chatbot.
Founder Noah Shinn has framed the company’s mission around scale. He said the goal is for Instinct to become “the best personal agent” for its users.
What this means for the AI agent race
The invite-only rollout gives the company some room to test and refine before opening the doors wider. A $1 billion war chest buys a lot of engineering, infrastructure and runway to get the product right at larger scale.
At $10 billion, Instinct needs to grow into a business that justifies a price set before most of its potential users have tried it. A fourfold markup in weeks compresses the timeline for proving the thesis.
