Judges Praised Its Job Competency-Based Talent System Linked to Energy Transition Goals Korea Midland Power Co. said it won the "UNLEASH Award" at the global HRD conference "UNLEASH World 2026" held in Paris, France, on Oct. 22. At the ceremony, the company achieved the distinction of receiving the "Excellence In Learning & Development Strategy" award.
The UNLEASH Award is jointly organized by the European Association for People Management and global HR tech group UNLEASH. It is known for selecting outstanding companies through a comprehensive evaluation of organizations' talent development strategies and execution systems, as well as how organically those activities are linked to actual management performance.
Korea Midland Power received high marks for the "job competency-based talent development system" it established to respond to rapid changes in the business environment, including the energy transition. Analysts said the company benefited from moving away from the conventional method of simply completing training courses and instead systematically defining the competencies required for each job and closely linking them to management strategy.
Among the specific measures cited was a customized growth system based on individual competency assessment results. Korea Midland Power is operating an integrated talent development system that combines competency assessments, Individual Development Plans, and customized learning into a single framework. In addition, it is focusing on enhancing the effectiveness of fostering professional talent by advancing its job expert certification system.
Lee Young-jo, president of Korea Midland Power, said, "This award is the result of the objective recognition of the job competency-centered talent development system we have pursued to respond to the era of energy transition," adding that the company would do its utmost to systematically foster talent so that the expertise and growth of each employee can lead to the company's competitiveness.
