More than 600 transport network vehicle service (TNVS) partners operating under the so-called "tempo" status were given provisional authority as their application for regularization is underway, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said.
The LTFRB added that 638 out of 9,036 applicants were already given a notice of hearing and provisional authority.
“We are on the right track of the regularization process based on the commitment of Secretary Banoy to the TNVS community. We encourage all applicants to complete the requirements stated in their account,” said LTFRB acting chairperson Greg Pua Jr. in a statement on Sunday.
The application for the regularization of "tempo" TNVS units started last October 8 and will run for 30 days.
“Tempo” is known in the transport community, especially in TNVS, as a practice of the Transport Network Companies (TNCs) of onboarding TNVS units on their digital platforms without the units having obtained the requisite authority from the LTFRB.
The application for regularization can be done via LTFRB's online platform.
The applications may be filed directly by individual TNVS operators or by accredited TNCs through their authorized representatives on behalf of eligible drivers.
However, application is only open to unauthorized units listed in the validated masterlists previously submitted by TNCs.
To secure a provisional authority, units must first pass a roadworthiness test at an LTFRB-accredited Private Motor Vehicle Inspection Center (PMVIC), which will electronically transmit the inspection results directly to the agency's system.
Moreover, the LTFRB asked TNCs not to deactivate their "tempo" units while the application for regularization is ongoing.
“The reason why we are taking this measure of regularizing these tempo TNVS partners is to ensure that they will not lose their job and source of income for their families as we note that majority of them, if not all, are breadwinners,” said Pua.
“So, we ask the TNCs not to deactivate their tempo TNVS partners and provide assistance instead to their partners by making everything easy for them in order to comply with the regularization requirements on time," he added. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/KG, GMA News
