Rahul Gandhi launches scathing attack against Gyanesh Kumar
Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Rahul Gandhi, on Monday took a swipe at Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, saying he was having sleepless nights following the agitations over the allegations of vote theft, and asserting that the ongoing movement would ensure his resignation.
Rahul Gandhi accused the Narendra Modi government of protecting the Chief Election Commissioner, claiming that the heavy police deployment in central Delhi was intended to send a message that the government was shielding him.
“Our strategy is different. We want there to be a police cordon. We want the country to know that PM Modi is protecting Gyanesh Kumar,” Rahul Gandhi said, referring to the security presence around the protests.
“We want 20,000 to 30,000 security personnel on the streets. By doing so, they are sending a message to the nation that they are shielding Gyanesh Kumar,” he added.
The Congress leader said resistance against the Election Commission had been building for 10-12 years and was now crystallising into a public movement. He questioned why people were being prevented from protesting in the national capital.
