Shrek is officially coming back to consoles. A trailer for ‘Shrek 2 Remastered’ just leaked online thanks to a now-deleted listing on the Xbox Store. The official announcement will likely happen at the upcoming Xbox Showcase on October 20. However, eager fans have already secured a solid first look at the ogre-fueled nostalgia trip.
A GTA-Style Trailer & Ironic Leak
The original Shrek 2 game remains a massive millennial pop culture icon. Even though the original release featured clunky mechanics and polygon-heavy graphics, many players fondly remember it as their very first movie-to-game title. Now, the classic adventure is getting a proverbial nip and tuck.
Surprisingly, the leaked Shrek 2 Remastered trailer heavily parodies Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6. Furthermore, this situation highlights a rather odd coincidence. GTA 6 constantly suffers from major leaks. Ironically, its Shrek 2 parody just experienced the exact same unceremonious reveal. Despite the unexpected leak, a notable number of players are already voicing extreme enthusiasm for the game.

Next-Gen Upgrades & Co-Op Modes
According to the leaked store page, Aspyr Media is developing the remaster. Xbox and Aspyr have not provided an official comment yet. Nevertheless, the deleted listing confirms massive technical upgrades. For instance, players will experience 4K resolution, better textures, and fully upgraded cutscenes. The developers also enhanced the UI. Additionally, they added a brand-new Photo Mode and Cheat Mode.
Multiplayer fans also have a lot to celebrate. The upcoming remaster supports up to four players. Specifically, it offers standard online and local couch co-op. Moreover, a unique “Mixed Co-op” mode lets you play online and locally at the exact same time.
Shrek 2 Remastered Platforms & Official Reveal
Currently, the leaked trailer only displays the Xbox Series X|S logo at the end. Despite this, rumors heavily suggest the remaster will also launch on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles.
Meanwhile, PC players already knew this was coming. A massive Steam Achievements leak previously outed the unannounced Shrek 2 remaster back in September 2026. Therefore, fans should definitely tune in to the Xbox Showcase on October 20. That event should finally confirm all the remaining details for this retro fairytale adventure.
