KUALA LUMPUR: UDA Holdings Bhd has allocated RM5 million to develop public parks and recreational facilities in Penang, including a 1.01-hectare public park in Tanjung Tokong.
The park, Laman Tanjong, will be located next to the Eight & Eight Condominium development and is intended to provide recreational space for residents and the surrounding community.
Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong said the initiative aimed to ensure new property developments also benefited nearby communities by improving access to public spaces and supporting residents' well-being.
He added that cooperation between the federal and state governments, together with implementing agencies such as UDA, was important in delivering urban developments that meet community needs.
Sim also said new housing developments could create economic opportunities for local entrepreneurs as growing populations generated demand for goods and services.
UDA chief executive officer Ahmad Fuaad Kenali said the company had contributed to Penang's urban development since 1971, particularly in Tanjung Tokong, through residential projects, commercial developments and supporting infrastructure.
"Our developments have been driven by the objective of improving the living standards of previous residents through the resettlement project into a modern, inclusive and sustainable community," he said.
Among its projects in the area is Warisan Tanjung, which comprises 3,836 residential units across 17.58 hectares, including 1,200 replacement homes for original Tanjung Tokong residents under a resettlement initiative.
UDA also developed Desiran Tanjung, a 21.88-hectares residential and commercial development that includes about 120 shop-office units at Vantage Desiran Tanjung along Jalan Tanjung Tokong.
The area's latest development, Eight & Eight Condominium, comprises 600 residential units across two towers and is scheduled for completion in 2029.
The condominium offers three-bedroom units ranging from 885 to 1,139 square feet, with prices starting at RM691,628.
Facilities include a swimming pool, gymnasium, prayer hall, multipurpose hall, co-working space and electric vehicle charging bays. The development also incorporates features such as rainwater harvesting, herb gardens and green landscaping.
It is located near healthcare facilities including Penang Adventist Hospital, Gleneagles Hospital Penang and Penang General Hospital, as well as schools, shopping centres and recreational attractions.
