The officer, who appeared to be on traffic duty, stopped a vehicle carrying a group of youths and used the moment to deliver a heartfelt, if unconventional, address.
Rather than issuing a fine or making arrests, he chose to speak directly to the young people about the consequences of smoking bhang.
Traffic Officer's Fatherly Advice to the Youth
With unmistakable concern in his voice, the officer challenged the group to reflect on their habits, pointing out that bhang offered nothing of real value.
"Everytime bhang, everyday bhang, bhang does not help. If we present you with ugali at the dining table will you finish a whole 2kg? You smoke bhang and throw and do the same over and over again. You back there please quit smoking bhang, please use ugali and mursik instead," he told the occupants of the vehicle.
He also directed attention towards a young woman sitting cramped inside the car, seemingly concerned about the company she was keeping.
He warned the group that persistent drug use would push them towards a mental breakdown, leaving their families to bear the consequences.
"You will go crazy and its only your parents who will be left picking up your pieces and taking you to mental homes," he cautioned.
The young people in the vehicle appeared to receive the lecture with a mix of agreement and laughter, with some nodding along while others chuckled at his remarks about the lady in their company.
Social Media Reacts to the Viral Video
The video spread quickly online, drawing a flood of responses from Kenyans who found the officer's approach both amusing and refreshing.
Adyvokkeh Iano:
"That weed chose us and we are part of it I mean..No weed no us. Tell this good cop, that herb is harmless."
Lucky Mwangi:
"I decided to quit drinking but remembered I don't listen to drunkards."
Don Trejo:
"I wonder why smoking some see it as a sin."
Son Sun Gikuyu:
"Alafu Kwa hio mbogi hakukosi Kuna msee alisema acha tuwashe Moja ya huyo afande."
Reuben Ronn:
"Ugali and Mursik cannot do to me what weed does to me so I'm sorry Sir but I cannot and must not confuse the initial intentions."
While opinions on bhang remain sharply divided in the comments, many Kenyans praised the officer for choosing dialogue over punitive action, with his warmth and humour earning him admiration from across the country.
