In a customer notice on Tuesday, October 13, the company confirmed the Athi Water Works Development Authority (AWWDA) would shut down the NCT-Kigoro-Gigiri-Kabete pipeline to facilitate emergency repair works.
The shutdown is expected to last approximately 24 hours, disrupting water supply in parts of the city.

Affected Areas
Areas expected to be affected include Riverside, Lavington, Kileleshwa, Kilimani, Ngara, Parklands, Kibera and Nairobi West, alongside several neighbouring estates.
Other affected areas include parts of Ngong Road, Forces Memorial, Mbagathi Way, Adams Arcade, Woodley, Ngumo West, Golf Course I and II, and areas around Jamhuri.
Residents in Kibera should also expect interruptions in Lindi, Kambi Muru, Silanga, parts of Gatwekera, Kibera Plaza, Kianda, Ayany, Mwembeni and Makongeni.
Further, the shutdown will also affect parts of Southlands, Quick Estate, Hamayun Estate, Heshima Gardens, Akila 1, Space Apartments, Popo Road and areas around Wilson Airport.
Other locations listed in the notice include Park Road, City Park, Desai Road, Railway Quarters in Ngara, Forest Road, Kipande Road and Limuru Road.
In addition, areas around the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United States Embassy, the International School, Kinanda Valley, Kihingo Estate and Magnolia are expected to experience supply disruptions.
Parts of Parklands, including Parklands roads one to five, Suswa Road, Highridge, Iregi Road, Kusi Lane, Mwambao Road and Masari Road, are also on the list.
While the utility company did not specify when the shutdown would begin, the emergency nature of the repairs means the affected areas could experience water supply disruptions as early as Tuesday.
Customers in the affected areas have since been advised to make the necessary arrangements during the shutdown as repair works are undertaken.
The NCT-Kigoro-Gigiri-Kabete pipeline is part of an elaborate bulk water transmission infrastructure which supplies water from the Kigoro Water Treatment Plant in Murang’a County towards Nairobi.
Managed by the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA, the pipeline carries water in bulk to the city's wider distribution network. With this in mind, shutting it down for repairs can reduce the volume of water entering the system, potentially resulting in low pressure or a complete interruption in areas dependent on the affected supply routes.
Notably, this is not the first time Nairobi is experiencing such disruptions. In June 2026, there was a reported leak on the transmission pipeline at Gatundu which prompted a shutdown which affected dozens of estate in the city.
