The family of British woman Claire Glatman has welcomed a unanimous Greek appeals court decision upholding the guilt of Charalampos Karbouris for her negligent manslaughter, saying the ruling brings a measure of accountability and closure after more than six years.

In a statement provided to Greek City Times following the appeal, the Glatman family thanked the court prosecutor and judges for their handling of the case, while describing the prolonged legal proceedings as an additional source of distress following Claire’s death.
The family said they had always accepted that Claire’s death was an accident but accused Karbouris of prolonging their suffering and delaying justice.
The case has continued through the Greek judicial system for more than six years, with the latest unanimous decision marking a significant development for the family.
Glatman family welcomes unanimous ruling
In their statement, the family expressed gratitude that the appeals court had confirmed the finding of guilt and praised the professionalism and fairness of those involved in the proceedings.
Statement on behalf of the Glatman family:
“We are grateful that the Court has unanimously confirmed the guilt of Mr Karbouris in a considered judgement. We also wish to express our sincere thanks to the Appeal Court prosecutor and judges for the exceptionally professional and fair way they have approached the case.
“It is more than six years since Claire tragically lost her life. We have always accepted that this was an accident, yet Mr Karbouris has caused our family further distress and delayed justice at every opportunity. He sought to shift blame onto entirely innocent parties and to manipulate a community in Kassiopi that Claire so loved.
“This decision brings a measure of the accountability and closure that we have sought for so long. We remain thankful for the respect shown for our family’s grief and privacy at this time.”
Six years of grief and legal proceedings
Claire’s family said the years since her death had brought further distress as the case progressed through the courts.
Their statement also highlighted the impact of the proceedings on Kassiopi, the Corfu community that Claire loved.
The family said the unanimous ruling represented an important step towards the accountability they had sought throughout the legal process.
They also thanked those involved in the appeal for respecting their grief and privacy.
The latest decision brings renewed attention to a case that has remained before the Greek courts for more than six years, with the family now expressing hope that the outcome will provide some measure of closure.
