The Kano State House of Assembly has approved the downward review of the 2026 appropriation law from over N1.47 trillion to N1.21 trillion.
The decision to cut down the budget by about N276 billion followed the presentation of a report on the 2026 appropriation/amendment bill by the House Committee on Appropriation.
The Committee Chairman, Abdulhamid Abdul-Minjibir (APC-Minjibir), said the downward review was due to significant shortfall in the inflows of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) to the state.
He said that was occasioned by the implementation of tax reforms laws and other prevailing micro-economics that has affected the revenue projections of the state.
Abdul-Minjibir said the downward review would also enable the state to maintain fiscal discipline, avoid borrowings and ensure the government delivers its core priorities within available realistic resources.
He said that out of the N1.21 trillion, the sum of N390 billion would be the recurrent expenditure, while N820 billion would be for capital expenditure.
The house after series of deliberations, adopted the report and adjourned the sitting to Tuesday.
