Alcudia is this weekend hosting the national assembly of Los Pueblos Más Bonitos de España, The Most Beautiful Villages in Spain, a gathering that brings together some 120 participants from across the country for a four-day visit from Thursday to Sunday.
Events have included a tour of the Roman city of Pollentia, a visit to the Sa Bassa Blanca Museum and a boat trip around the Bay of Alcudia. Mayor Fina Linares and tourism councillor, Juan José Sendín, welcomed the participants during an official reception, which was followed by a seafront tasting dinner.
The assembly's discussions have included digital promotion for the villages, participation at the Fitur tourism trade fair in Madrid in January, the coordination of joint campaigns, such as those for the Christmas season, and the addition of new villages to the network.
Los Pueblos Más Bonitos de España is a non-profit organisation founded in 2010 with the goal of protecting and promoting the cultural, architectural, and natural heritage of its members. The network comprises places that meet specific quality and heritage-preservation criteria, and it promotes a form of tourism that respects the unique identity of each village.
Fornalutx is the only other Mallorca member of the network. Pollensa was a member for a time. The current town hall administration decided to withdraw, suggesting that membership wasn't in line with its tourism strategy.
