As part of the celebrations marking 50 years of diplomatic relations between Mozambique and Germany, the German Embassy in Maputo is presenting the “Festival das Histórias”, an initiative dedicated to the people, encounters and experiences that, shaped five decades of partnership. Linked to the theme “50 Anos, 50 Histórias” as well as the “Weeks of German Language and Culture”, the festival brings together music, poetry, personal stories, gastronomy and intercultural activities throughout October. The festival’s artistic curation is led by Stewart Sukuma.

The first event of the Festival das Histórias, “50 Anos ao Vivo” took place on 8 October at 6:00 PM at Centro-Cultural Moçambicano-Alemão (CCMA). This pre-event launched the festival’s narrative and presented the programme for the main celebration, taking place on 24 October 2026. The evening featured poetry in German, performed by teachers and students, followed by testimonies from Mozambican-German couples, who shared personal stories of encounters, families, cultures and experiences built between the two countries. Music was another highlight of the evening. Stewart Sukuma, Radjha Ally, Delta and Leyna Souto, accompanied by the (R)Evolution band, performed Mozambican songs alongside some of the most relevant songs from the German musical tradition.

Full-day festival on 24 October 2026 brings together Mozambican artists and German singer
The highlight of the celebrations marks the main event of “Festival das Histórias” on 24 October, from 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM, in a major celebration at Glam (Av. Mao Tse Tung). The festival is open to the public with free admission and designed to bring Mozambican and German communities and families as well as everyone interested in the cultures of both countries together.
The Mozambican artists Stewart Sukuma, Radjha Ally, Delta and Leyna Souto will be joined by Berlin-based German singer and songwriter Carla Ahad, a rising star in Germany who has already accumulated more than 20 million streams across streaming platforms.
The artists will be accompanied by the (R)Evolution band, with the participation of Moticoma, in a musical programme celebrating the dialogue between Mozambican and German cultures. The programme will also feature a quiz about Germany with the chance to win prices, Mozambican, German and international gastronomy, as well as music by DJs Dub Rui and Nandele. For children and families, Musiarte will host a musical and intercultural workshop, creating a space for learning and enjoyment through music.
Embedded in the celebrations are two additional events: On 13 October, the CCMA will open its door for a panel discussion on “50 years Germany and Mozambique: Memory, Arts, and Future”. This discussion will reflect on the history of cultural cooperation between the two countries and open up paths for the future. On 22 October, German singer Carla Ahad will visit the CCMA for an acoustic concert, presenting some of her songs in an intimate setting before she will energize the crowds during the main festival two days later.
