Giants' John Harbaugh could give Cam Skattebo competition with a fresh face originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New York Giants are having a solid season for the first time in a while, and they're No. 1 in the NFC East for the first time since November 2015. That's even without franchise quarterback Jaxson Dart heading up the offense, since he's out for the regular season with an injury.
Promising Giants running back Cam Skattebo is healthy again after being out for much of last season, but he's dropped down on the depth chart and hasn't had nearly as much playing time because he's had struggles on the field. There's even some talk that the Giants could bring in fresh blood.
Following the team's Week 6 loss to the New Orleans Saints, Connor Hughes of SNY is sharing some thoughts about the Giants' current situation and Skattebo.
The New York Giants could look to add a new RB1 before the trade deadline as Cam Skattebo struggles to find his footing
In the piece, Hughes discussed the possibility of Giants head coach John Harbaugh getting a new RB1 via a trade this season.
"Skattebo is a nice complement to a bell cow," Hughes stated in the piece. "The player you bring in for a physical change-of-pace. He is not a No. 1 back. He should not be getting 20-plus carries again. He's not quick, has little burst, lacks elite athleticism, and runs into contact."
He added, "The Giants will likely try to add to the running back room before the trade deadline. It's just a matter of if they can do anything."
So, Hughes sounds quite down on Skattebo. That's obviously just his opinion, and it certainly doesn't mean Harbaugh is giving up on him. This is one situation that could change as the season progresses.
