The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is targeting November 2026 to complete a pipeline project expected to transfer 708 cubic metres of water demand per hour from the Muyenga supply system to the Katosi system, easing pressure on the network serving parts of Kampala and surrounding areas.
The Katosi–Mutungo Water Supply Improvement Project involves laying approximately 3.8 kilometres of a 600mm-diameter pipeline between Seeta and Namanve.
According to the project statement, Mutungo and its surrounding service areas currently depend on the Muyenga supply system. The transfer to the Katosi system is expected to free up capacity in Muyenga and improve water supply reliability in its service areas.
Areas expected to benefit include Rubaga, Lungujja, Busega, Natete, Ndebba, Mutundwe, Nalukolongo, Makindye, Salaama Road and Busabala.
Other areas listed are Bulenga, Buloba, Bukasa, Buyala, Kyebando, Bujjuko, Gombe-Kitasa, Naluvule, parts of Ssenge, Kireka-Biira, Nakabugo, Kigoma and Kayunga.
The project is also expected to improve operational flexibility between the Katosi and Ggaba water supply systems.
The government is implementing the project through NWSC as part of efforts to strengthen water supply capacity and reliability.
The statement did not disclose the project’s cost, the number of customers expected to benefit or the current level of construction progress.
