Various women leaders across the six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, met at the weekend to discuss practical measures to improve the welfare, protection and advancement of women and girls in the areas.
Princess Hauwa Philip Aduda, wife of Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda at the meeting to discuss women’s aspirations and the senator’s proposed legislative priorities ahead of the 2027 general elections, outlined the seven priority areas underpinning Senator Aduda’s legislative agenda for women and girls under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
A statement, signed by Ambassador Mariam Haruna, Sunday, said during the meeting, Princess Hauwa Philip Aduda listed the areas as “Skills Development and Economic Empowerment; Support for Women-owned Businesses; Education and Mentorship; Maternal and Community Healthcare; Women Representation and Leadership; Protection and Inclusion of Vulnerable Women; and Prevention of Gender-Based Violence and Access to Justice.”
Princess Aduda emphasised the importance of sustained dialogue with women leaders to ensure that grassroots concerns inform these priorities, and encouraged continued engagement, collaboration and practical recommendations to strengthen the proposed agenda.
The meeting, she said, reinforced the importance of women participation in shaping policies that affect their lives and holding public representatives accountable for results.
Through continued consultation, Princess Aduda said the priorities would be further developed into a legislative agenda focused on measurable improvements in the lives of women and girls across the FCT.
